Every home needs some maintenance every now and again. Setting out to see what’s wrong with the house and fixing it is only one part of being a homeowner, so make sure you know the part and know how to play it. You do not have to be a professional handyman to deal with all the things that require home repairs, and there are things you can do all by yourself when you do not want to pay for handyman services. The best thing you can do for your home is to do weekly examinations of the house and make sure there are no problems. And if you do see a problem, since you did just start a thorough examination process, it will be easily fixable with a 15-minute or so household repair. And here are all the small repairs you can do yourself.
Leaky Pipes
The tricky part here is to see where the leak is coming from. Exterior leaks are what you should be looking forward to as you actually can work with them. All you need is to see whether the pipe is busted or if the water current has loosened up a joint. In the case of the latter, it’s all up to you. Get your pipe spanner (a thing every household should have) and tighten up the joint with precision. Don’t be too rough with it, though, otherwise you might just overdo it and hire those plumbing services anyway. And you definitely need to hire somebody if there is an internal leak somewhere – this is one type of work you don’t want to be responsible for.
Wobbly Furniture
Someday, somehow, you might discover that one of your pieces of furniture is just not sitting straight. The most usual problem for that is a loose joint in the legs area. This repair is also a simple one as it only requires hard glue that works on furniture. Well, it can also be done with nails, if you want a more permanent solution, but that is not always aesthetically pleasing. Simply take the joint apart, glue it up and shove it back in. Keep the leg and joint tight in the position you want them in for a few minutes, then leave them alone for a few hours. After that the piece of furniture will be ready for use with no more wobbling to worry about.
Squeaky Hinges
You know just how annoying squeaky hinges can be. You can never open a squeaky door without gritting your teeth. You should immediately fix this problem, and the solution is actually a pretty simple one. All you need is a multi-function smart spray to loosen the grit on the hinges up and maybe even adding some oil and rubbing it over the hinges with a rag (which you should throw away after that!). After you are done, there should be no more squeaking and you can test it out immediately. If there is still something left in the hinges, simply repeat the process till it stops.
Tangled Cords
This one is not even complex, but it is a big nightmare. And if you don’t consider untangling cords as a home repair job, then you have probably never tried to do it. Remember all those times when you take your earphones from your pocket and they are in a knot that would make a sailor proud? Well, untangling cords is working on that skills, but on a much bigger scale. Not to mention that if you are dealing with TV cords, they are probably tangled with all the cords in your console station, so good luck with that. Experience is the key there.
Clutter
An ever growing problem, clutter will forever be in your way, unless you do something proper about it. The best thing you can do here is implement some good house clearance. Either by yourself or with the help of a house clearance company, you should be able to rid your home of much clutter if you simply spend a few minutes a day taking out items you no longer need.
These are some of the small repairs you can do at home for less than fifteen minutes. They don’t take long to fix, they don’t need professional help, and they get easier to do once you’ve gotten the hang of it. Proceed and adapt to do it more easily in the future.
