How to be productive at work? This is a question many people have from time to time. While everybody has their own trick to stay concentrated and productive at the office, there is one universal answer for all: less clutter, more work. The clutter is the one thing that you should not allow yourself to get bothered by, otherwise it is goodbye proper working until the office decluttering is done. Here are all the ways that clutter can be deteriorative to your attempts to be a busy-body at the workplace.
Chaos at the Desk, Chaos in the Mind
Concentration has ever been a vital part of proper work. However, with clutter all about you, you have got so many things which will be able to distract you from what you are doing and what you are trying to achieve. Doubly so if your work consists in writing. You can start a sentence and immediately think how shiny the empty dispenser next to you is. You can be in the middle of a flow, then shift for a better stance and kick a cardboard box with Xerox paper. How is that for a distraction? Bring some order around you to clear the problematic lack of concentration.
Lack of Flow Breaks Concentration
Speaking of flow, it is imperative that you can move about in your office or around the desk. Sometimes the mind reaches a block and needs some refreshing – most people do that by pacing around the desk to freshen up the mind. But how will you achieve that when you are busy struggling with strewn about items? One step to the filled paper bin, one step to the ball you throw for motivation, and then another one around empty boxes from the fast food place you ordered your lunch. All of that becomes an obstacle race and not a good place to seek inspiration in.
Stretching Space for Bodily Functions
Working at an office means usually sitting down for the most of the day. Your hands and feet will go stiff and you will want to stretch before they go numb. And with the first attempt of stretching, instead of getting the satisfactory relief of a full arm-span, you punch a nearby empty vase whose flowers had withered away out of neglect. Or getting to kick a waste basket and rolled paper instead of a full leg stretch. Less clutter means more space for your own physical and physiological needs.
All in all, make sure that you have enough space for your thoughts. Sometimes the mind needs just as much freedom as the body and if you stop one of them, you stop the other. Breaking the symbiosis ruins your concentration and puts you in the nasty position of struggling to work instead of simply being productive. Some office clearance from time to time, either done by yourself or professionals, will always be a plus. Keep it clean, keep it clear, and keep the inspiration, concentration, flow, and productivity coming.
